Gattaca, like all dystopias, warns us of where our society might end up if we don’t pay attention. In the case of Gattaca, the feature of our society that we are asked to question is the use of genetic selection. Andrew Niccol tells us in the film that we are more than our genetic inheritance. This is reflected in the tag-line “There is no gene for the human spirit” and is developed through the characters, each of whom represents a different perspective on the use of genetic modification.

Jerome (Eugene) Morrow is presented to us as being genetically perfect QUOTE. However without a dream for the future he does not have a reason to live or to strive. Until he allies himself to Vincent Freeman, a “de-gene-rate” and his plan to trick the space mission called Gattaca into accepting him on a mission reserved only for the very ‘best’ QUOTE.
